Light Chaser vs. Fumbling in the Dark

I enjoy photography and love to “chase the light” as it creates beautiful pictures. I often shoot early morning or right before sunset because that is when the light is best. Even on vacation, I get up early to find the perfect light to illuminate landscapes and objects of interest. I took this shot in Idaho in the early morning. Sunshine makes everything better.

I am also a “light chaser” in life, as it brings clarity and hope. According to the dictionary, “light is the natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible.” Light makes sight possible.

In John 8:12, “Jesus spoke to the people, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Sometimes I feel like I am stumbling in the dark when I focus on the problems surrounding me instead of looking to God to show me the way—whether it be ruminating on the wrongs in our world that I can do little about or my own problems. Dwelling on problems is overwhelming, which makes finding a solution tough. When I turn to God for help, He illuminates the truth and brings the proper perspective. God provides hope and direction no matter how dark or confusing things may seem. C.S. Lewis said it eloquently, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”

In the light of God’s truth, I see those things that matter most and make progress. I am no longer distracted or overwhelmed. I see the path I should take instead of fumbling in the dark.
